Nuovo ponte sul torrente Pora

Finale Ligure, 2023

Location: Finale Ligure (SV), Italy
Year: 2023
Project: OKS Architects + Arch. Edoardo Fiecconi + Arch. Lorenzo Iacomelli
Advisor: AEI
Collaborator: Cristina Bartolucci, Daniele Della Ragione, Marco Cardini
Program: vehicular/cyclopedic bridge
Type: International design competition

The new bridge over the Pora stream connects the two banks through the creation of an equipped agricultural park, the lower elevation of which coincides with the floodplain, while the higher elevation reaches up to the elevation of the road surface on which the new bridge will be grafted. With this solution, in addition to providing ecological and landscape reconversion, the span between the two supports of the infrastructure is greatly reduced. The design of the new bridge involves the development of the design along a circumferential arc, going to seek a fluid and natural narrative between the two provincial roads and at the same time allowing to keep the legal distances darò buildings located in the vicinity of the project. The two-way infrastructure, with a bicycle/pedestrian path flanking it, is about forty meters long and is clad with a shell of bronze metal panels made of copper and tin alloy. The proposal thus responds to the issues raised in the analysis through two main design moves: viability and environmental impact. The former is solved through a double-roundabout road system, which promotes smooth traffic flow on and near the bridge, without the presence of level crossings that could create problems for fast flow, also involving heavy vehicles. The relationship with the surrounding context is emphasized by the reinterpretation and redefinition of the new agricultural tracks. A terraced system composed of equipped areas, spaces for recreation and social activities is related to urban gardens and orchards. The project is inserted as an interface landscape between the forested system of the mountain and the river system of the Pora, consequently tree and shrub species consistent with the type of agricultural fabric have been planned.
