The project for the “Landscape and eco-sustainable redevelopment of the Campsite La Vecchia Torre di Gallipoli” aims to reactivate and redevelop the entire area belonging to the Coppola family, to create a physical, visual, ecological and attractive synergy, thus increasing the fruition and economic potential of the entire complex and surrounding area. The design of the new masterplan consists of a system of paths, some transversal to the coastline, recalling the small watercourses of the Gravinelle that cut into the coast, others parallel to it, inspired by the ecosystem of the typical Salento sand dunes. This transversal-longitudinal system has been overlaid with a layer of paths with a curvilinear progression, born of the desire to contrast with the rigidity of the grid of the system previously described and at the same time to offer semi-circular paths capable of connecting all the parts of the campsite. The spatial continuity of the campsite is also ensured by the creation of an area characterised by the depression of the land at SP 108, thus allowing the east and west parts of the intervention area, currently physically separated by the road axis, to be linked together, a real caesura for both the accommodation complex and the landscape. While, the design leitmotif of the new mobile homes stems from the image of traditional local constructions, such as coastal towers and Trulli. The result is a formal synthesis of temporary dwellings with a truncated pyramid shape, recognisable and identifiable. The idea is to create simple forms that relate strongly to their context and strongly pursue the idea of a ‘holiday en plein air’. For these reasons, importance was given to the relationship between the new mobile homes and the campsite by providing wooden decks of exclusive pertinence and other collective ones, as well as by making the roofing of the buildings completely transparent for a direct relationship with nature and in particular with the pine forest that insists on the campsite area.
